The dangers of dryer fires and what causes them?

It's the weekend, the time to relax! It’s also time to start the weekly chores such as doing the laundry. Washers and dryers are one of the workhorse appliances in your home. Our dryers can be our best friend but could be our worst nightmare.

Over time, dryer vents become clogged with lint, hair and dust, and they have to be cleaned regularly. A clogged dryer vent can also increase the drying time for every load of laundry done. At the end of the cycle, the clothes may still be damp and if you don’t remove them and they sit for a few days, you’ll need to wash them over again to remove the odour. Your laundry may take multiple cycles to thoroughly dry your clothes, and that will your increase your electric bill, and no one wants to pay more than they should. When your dryer isn’t drying properly you should check the dryer vent for blockage. Another sign of a problem is when the dryer feels hot to the touch. It could mean that the vent is clogged and the heat is not escaping and the cool air is not coming in. When heat builds up, it could start a fire.

If the dryer is blocked and airflow is restricted, it may cause a serious fire hazard. The main causes of a dryer fire are clogged dryer vents. Dryer fires account for loss of life and millions of dollars in property damage.

Dryer fires can be avoided. To reduce the risk, we recommend a regular inspection and cleaning to the dryer vents inside your home. It should be cleaned at least once a year or more if you use it more regularly.

Our team of fully trained, certified technicians would be happy to provide any of our services in your home or commercial building. We recommend the use of the LintAlert monitoring system with annual dryer vent cleaning to reduce your risk of a dryer fire.

Our team are fully trained certified technicians, and are happy to provide any of our services in your home. We use the latest equipment, custom built truck mounted and portable duct cleaning technology, to thoroughly clean your home and commercial heating and cooling air duct system top to bottom.

Our service vehicles are equipped for many different cleaning applications, such as residential, commercial and industrial duct cleaning, dryer vent cleaning, robotic video inspections, mould removal, dust collector clean outs, hi-level building cleaning, insulation removal, dry-ice blasting and many other specialized cleaning services.

Do you have allergies? Do you sneeze and cough a lot? When cleaning your home do you have a lot of dust? Are you renovating your house? If you said yes to any of these, then getting your air duct cleaning is a right move. Your air ducts could be laden with dust, dirt, mold, bacteria, construction garbage, pet hair, building materials, fungal growth, flakes of skin and hair. These are blown throughout your home when the furnace fan comes on and can create some problems. For example, allergies can be aggravated, resulting in sneezing and/or coughing. If there is a lot of dust in your house, even though you already cleaned your house, respiratory health problems can be triggered. Poor indoor air quality can inflame allergies, respiratory disorders, cause sickness, or result in occupant complaints and employee absenteeism.

How do we inspect, clean, and sanitize obscure confined spaces? One way is with a remote control robot device. With a tiny video camera, we can look inside the ducts so you and the technician can monitor the cleaning process. Re-useable access points are sealed with a sheet metal plate with an airtight gasket and screws. We also clean the furnace fan, fan housing and accessible areas of the air conditioning coils.

Does your house have a lingering odor? Have you tried air fresheners and still can’t get your house smelling better? We also have a fresh scent herbal-based sanitizer to make your house smell better. Plus it kills any lingering molds and fungi. When getting your air ducts cleaned professionally, it will take about 2 or more hours depending on the size of the house. At the end of the service a certificate of cleaning is provided with the work.

Did you know we can provide you with a cost over the phone or you can request pricing using our web form? When our technicians arrive they will provide you with a written verification of pricing “before” we start anything. You should know exactly how much the cleaning is going to be, there are no surprises.

Top 5 Contributors to Poor Indoor Air Quality

Top 5 contributors to poor indoor air quality!

Poor indoor air quality can have a direct impact on our lives and our health. If you’re experiencing symptoms of poor indoor air quality, such as dryness and irritation of the eyes, headaches, fatigues, shortness of breath or sinus congestion, you should take some steps to make improvements. The first step in improving your home or office’s air quality, is understanding what contributes to poor indoor air quality in the first place.

There are many offenders when it comes to poor indoor air quality. Everything from dust and pollen to off-gassing furniture can contribute. We’ve narrowed down the top 5 worst offenders.

  1. Dust & Dust Mites. Dust is one of the worst offenders. It seemingly comes from nowhere and covers everything if left alone for long enough. It can contribute to breathing and respiratory illnesses, allergies, skin problems, and more. Be sure to dust surfaces regularly to cut down on the amount of dust in your home. Air purifiers and vacuums with filters build in can help with this as well. Don’t forget to dust your blinds and bookshelf!
  2. Off-Gassing. New household products such as furniture, countertops, cabinets, appliances, carpeting, and more can release VOCs and gases into the air including formaldehyde. When installing new furniture or other household items, you can open a window to allow for better air ventilation while the furniture off-gasses, or turn on an air purifier to help speed up the process.
  3. Smoking. Cigarette smoke releases a wide range of chemicals such as formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, VOCs, and particulate matter. Avoid smoking indoors, or close to any vents, windows, or entrances, to improve your indoor air quality.
  4. Pet Dander. We love our animal pals like family! But sometimes, especially certain breeds of cats dogs, and birds, can create dander and dust from skin and fur that can contribute to poor indoor air quality. If you have a furry or feathered friend, there are things you can do to mitigate this! Keep your pet’s area (crate, cage..) clean. Bathe your pet regularly - especially if they’ve spent a lot of time outdoors. Brushing dogs and cats, and keeping them groomed can also help cut down on fur and dander in the air. Vacuuming regularly also helps!
  5. Garage Activities. If your home has an attached garage, the activities that take place inside of it can contribute to poor indoor air quality as well! Starting and idling a car, starting a lawn mower, operating a generator, cutting wood/carpentry, painting, etc. all release a variety of VOCs, including carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, and more. Try to ventilate your garage well and keep doors from your home to the garage closed and well sealed.

Air duct cleaning is number one in our list of steps to improve indoor air quality. Air ducts can become clogged with contaminants including any of the items listed above! Every time your heater operates, these toxins are fed through your heating system and into the air you breathe. Regular cleaning of your air ducts will eliminate these contaminants and drastically improve your home’s air quality.

In order to eliminate the threat of mould, bacteria or viruses in your ducts, we can also use our Benefact Herbal Based Sanitizer. The sanitizer contains thyme oil, an effective germ-killing ingredients that is less toxic than vinegar. Benefact kills over 99.99% of bacteria and surpasses Health Canada’s efficacy requirements for a broad range of disinfectants.

During the winter months you probably stayed indoors more often, with the windows closed and the air not getting much circulation. If you read our last blog post, you’ll know that this can really have a detrimental affect on your indoor air quality.

Spring is the perfect time to get your ducts cleaned for this exact reason. Especially since spring is a popular season for allergies outdoors, as pollen fills the air and the temperature fluctuates. You don’t want to compound your seasonal allergies with poor indoor air quality! Your air ducts are home to dust, dirt, mould, bacteria, flakes of skin, and other potential allergens. These contaminants are released into the atmosphere of your home, causing indoor air pollution, and environmental sensitivity.  The air ducts require periodic cleaning to reduce these airborne contaminants and to create a cleaner, safer home for you and your family.

Improve Your Indoor Air Quality for Spring

Throughout the winter, you most likely spent a lot more time indoors. You probably kept your windows and doors closed to keep the warmth in. Your pets also may have stayed inside more, and you probably had guests over during the holidays. Unfortunately, these winter behaviours can lead to a reduction in air quality.

You may not have even noticed your indoor air quality deteriorating as it would have occurred slowly over the winter months, rather than all at once. Skin cells, animal dander, and dust may have settled in your home’s duct-work. Keeping your windows closed will also have prevented the air from circulating properly, especially if you’re in an older house. And with winter comes moisture, so you may even have mould and mildew spores settling in your ductwork.

How do you know if your ducts need to be cleaned, and what are some things you can do to improve your indoor air quality as part of your spring cleaning?

Here are some questions to ask yourself.

  1. Do you suffer from allergies?
  2. Do you often sneeze when you are at home?
  3. Do you have a lot of dust in your home?
  4. Is your home new or has it had recent renovations?
  5. Are you concerned about buildups of dirt and debris in your ducts?
  6. Would you feel better knowing your ducts are clean when you hear the furnace fan come on?

If the answer is yes to any of these questions, you might need to take some steps to improve your air quality.

  • Add some plants to your living space. Plants have been shown to improve air-quality and remove many impurities from the air.
  • Avoid smoking indoors. Now that the weather is nicer, you should try to step outside for your cigarette.
  • Consider replacing carpet with hardwood flooring. Carpet can be a major trap for dust and allergens. If replacing your carpet is not an option, try vacuuming more often, Many vacuums also have filters that improve air quality as well.
  • Reduce humidity. Excess humidity can lead to mildew and mould in your air! Get it under control with proper ventilation or a dehumidifier.
  • Bathe your pets often. This one doesn’t need an explanation!
  • Keep your house tidy. Regular sweeping, dusting, and vacuuming will greatly reduce dust in the air.

The most important step in improving your air quality is to get your ducts cleaned. Your air ducts are home to dust, dirt, mould, bacteria, construction garbage, flakes of skin and hair. These contaminants are released into the atmosphere of your home, causing indoor air pollution, and environmental sensitivity.  The air ducts require periodic cleaning to reduce these airborne contaminants and to create a cleaner safer home for you and your family.

5 Tips on Getting a Jumpstart on Your Spring Cleaning

5 Tips on getting a jumpstart to your spring cleaning duct cleaning

As the weather starts to change, and we see longer sunnier days, it might have you thinking about starting your spring cleaning soon. Giving your home a good cleaning is important this time of year, especially for your indoor air quality.. During the winter months you most likely spent more time indoors, and less time opening windows and doors. Your furnace system was probably also running more. Dust most likely has built up on a few surfaces and the air might feel stagnant. To improve this air quality, you can get a start on your spring cleaning a bit early! Follow our 5 tips to make this daunting task a bit easier for you.

Make a plan
Knowing where and how to start tackling the chores is the hardest part of getting the ball rolling. The best thing to do is to sit down and write out everything (even the smallest tasks!) that needs to be done. This lets you break down all of your tasks. It also helps to make a guess at how long something might take, this way if you find yourself with only 10 or 20 minutes you can pick tasks that you can complete during that time.

Work from the top down
Make sure when you pick a place to start it is up higher. If you start with the floors and baseboards, you will end up needing to re-clean them at the end. Start with dusting ceiling fans, wiping walls, the tops of shelves, and countertops.. end with mopping and vacuuming.

Multitask
Multitasking will save you a lot of time on your chores. While you have a load of laundry or dishes going, dust some bookshelves. While a stain remover soaks on some upholstery or clothing, you could clean the toilet!

Blinds & curtains
Blinds and curtains hold onto a huge portion of the settled dust in our homes. Take the time to wipe these areas clean with a microfibre cloth and a vacuum. If you need something stronger, you can create a DIY solution of baking soda and warm water with your favourite essential oils to get a nice scent in your home as well.

Get your ducts cleaned
Your air ducts are home to dust, dirt, mould, bacteria, construction garbage, flakes of skin and hair. These contaminants are released into the atmosphere of your home, causing indoor air pollution, and environmental sensitivity. The air ducts require periodic cleaning to reduce these airborne contaminants and to create a cleaner safer home for you and your family.

During the winter as you spent more time indoors, there was most likely more contaminants settling in your ducts, so spring is the perfect time to get them cleaned out so you can bring in fresh air during the warmer months. Making sure your ducts are clean will also ensure that your air conditioning system can operate efficiently.

Remedy Excess Humidity In Your Home

reduce humidity ventilation duct cleaning barrie

The right amount of humidity in your home makes you comfortable and healthy… but too much humidity can cause many problems ranging from damage to your home, to damage to your health! If you notice your house has a humidity problem; condensation on the windows and walls, mould or mildew growth etc.. the first thing you should do is find the source of the humidity. Showering, doing laundry, and cooking all generate a lot of moisture that can accumulate and cause issues if not dealt with properly. Running exhaust fans while doing these activities can help reduce the humidity levels.

Humidity can lead to mould and mildew growth which can cause a slew of health problems
ranging from asthma and allergies, to mould toxicity.

If your heating system has a humidifier, the first thing to do is check the setting and make sure it is appropriate for the outside temperature. The colder the outdoor temperature, the lower the setting should be.
Below is a chart for suggested humidity settings.
OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE      RECOMMENDED RELATIVE HUMIDITY
-30C OR BELOW                         15%
-30C TO -24C                                 20%
-24C TO -18C                                 25%
-18C TO -12C                                 35%
-12C TO 0C                                    40%
You can run a dehumidifier to  reduce the humidity in your home. These are usually very effective and some models also purify and filter the air which generally improve air quality.
One of the best things you can do to improve ventilation and air quality indoors is to have your ducts cleaned.Your air ducts are home to dust, dirt, mould, bacteria, construction garbage, flakes of skin and hair. These contaminants are released into the atmosphere of your home, causing indoor air pollution, and environmental sensitivity.  The air ducts require periodic cleaning to reduce these airborne contaminants and to create a cleaner safer home for you and your family. Once they are clean and clear they will also do a better job at ventilating and therefore reducing the humidity in your home to an acceptable level.

3 Reasons You Need to Replace Your Furnace Filter

Furnace Filters Duct Cleaning Barrie Simcoe OntarioAs the height of heating season approaches,  you may start to think more about how to save heating costs and improve the air quality in your home since you may be spending more time indoors. Replacing your furnace's filter is one of the best and easiest things you can do to save money and keep your indoor air clean.

Furnace filters are your home's first line of defence against allergens, dust, and other airborne particles. They also protect your furnace's fans and heating coil from potential damage caused by these particles. So let's take a closer look at the benefits of regularly checking and replacing your furnace's filters.
  1. Protection from Airborne Particles. Your furnace works by pulling cool air from your home into the vents and furnace where it is heated and sent back out. The filters protect the fans and heating coils from being damaged by particles that get pulled in with the cool air. A filter's main purpose is the protection of these mechanical parts, and cleaning air is only a side effect. As the filter becomes dirty, your furnace must work harder to pull in the cool air. This results in possible damage to the furnace and a reduced lifespan.
  2. Improved Furnace Efficiency = Cost Savings. As mentioned above, when your filter becomes dirty the furnace must work much harder to pull in cool air. This means your furnace is not working as efficiently resulting in higher heating costs. Not to mention the cost of repairing/replacing parts more often as they break down.
  3. Improved Air Quality. A nice added benefit of furnace filters is the improved air quality of your home. There are different types of filters available on the market ranging from basic fiberglass to electrostatic and HEPA filters which filter out smaller particles like cigarette smoke and bacteria.
How Often to Replace Your Filter
The frequency at which you replace your filter will depend on the furnace and your home. Some things that might affect how often you need to replace the filter are:
  • How many animals you have in the home
  • If anyone smokes inside
  • How often you have the furnace running
  • How dusty your home is
  • How often you have windows and doors open
A general guideline is to replace your filter every 2-3 months. For those with smokers inside or more pets, you may want to replace every month. Always check your furnace manuals to see if your furnace requires a particular replacement schedule.

Why Fall is a Great Time to Clean Your Ducts!

Fall Duct Cleaning

As winter fast approaches, leaving autumn behind, it is good to know that there is still time to get your ducts cleaned before the heating season truly sets in. You will most likely be spending more time indoors as it gets colder outside and the sun sets earlier. You want to make sure your indoor air quality is up to par during these months, and having your home’s air ducts cleaned is a great way to jump-start healthy indoor air for the winter.

Duct Cleaning Winter Fall BarrieResidential air ducts should be cleaned when the house is new, following renovations, and then approximately every two or three years after that, although many people elect to have them cleaned every year- and fall is a great time for it.

Modern construction may leave a large amount of drywall dust, insulation, shavings and various food debris, often left by construction workers. The Technical Safety Standards Association (TSSA) now requires that air ducts be cleaned following construction, especially if the furnace was used during construction.

In a new home the building debris leaves a film of dust on hardwood floors and all furniture. This can leave your skin feeling dry and itchy and can cause your furnace to malfunction. This dry dust, draws moisture from the air providing a perfect breeding ground and nutrient source for bacteria and microbial contamination. In older homes, the dust accumulates to significant, measurable levels, often several inches deep. The dust forms on all surfaces significantly reducing airflow through the system.

This fall, while you're tidying up the garden, think about your inside environment and getting it prepared for the winter. Once the temperatures drop and getting fresh air into the house is not a matter of opening windows, you'll feel good knowing that the circulating air in your home is moving through a clean duct and vent system.

5 Ways to Improve Air Quality in Your Home

Air Quality Duct Cleaning Barrie

Indoor air quality starts to become a concern in winter months as we start to spend more time indoors, and less time opening windows to let in fresh air. Here are 5 tips to improving your indoor air quality and ensuring your family stays healthy all winter long.

Keep your house tidy
Regular dusting, sweeping, mopping, and wiping are all effective ways to keep the dust in your home at bay. You do not need to be obsessive about cleaning, but things like removing shoes when entering the house and dusting surfaces once a week will make a difference in your air quality.

Keep your pets bathed and groomed
Fido might be adorable but his dander and fur are not! And as the weather outside gets colder, your pet will most likely be spending more time indoors just like you. Make sure to brush and wash regularly, as well as wash any bedding or soft toys to keep the dander at a minimum.

Keep humidity down
Mould is a serious health risk in itself causing symptoms ranging from a runny nose to asthma attacks and other respiratory tract issues. Make sure the humidity in your home is under 30% in the winter and under 45% in the summer. Use ventilation and fans when cooking, showering, and other activities that generate moisture. Run a dehumidifier if you need to, and make sure there are no water leaks in your house.

Make use of Indoor plants
One NASA study showed that there are some plants that help to purify the air to an extent from chemicals that have been linked to eye irritation and headaches - benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene, xylene, and ammonia. These chemicals can be found in seemingly innocent household objects such as napkins, cabinetry, paints, rubber, and household cleaners. Peace Lily and Florist’s Chrysanthemum are two of the most effective plants for helping to remove some of these toxins from the air.

Have your ducts cleaned
Your air ducts are home to dust, dirt, mould, bacteria, construction garbage, flakes of skin and hair. These contaminants are released into the atmosphere of your home, causing indoor air pollution, and environmental sensitivity.  The air ducts require periodic cleaning to reduce these airborne contaminants and to create a cleaner safer home for you and your family.

Win the Battle Against Back to School Colds with Benefect Sanitizer

Benefect Thyme ALl Natural Barrie Duct Cleaning Sanitize
It’s back to school time! And what usually follows the back to school rush … cold and flu season. The good news is – regular duct cleaning can help you avoid getting sick.  How? Professional duct cleaning removes the dust and debris that has built up in your home’s air duct system – and it also removes the mold and bacteria that could be growing in your system.

Every time your furnace turns on, it pushes that dust, debris and bacteria through your home’s venting system, and right into the air you breathe. This recirculation of contaminants occurs 5 – 7 times per day … which means you’re constantly breathing in harmful contaminants.

That’s why we recommend Benefect Herbal Sanitizer. Benefect complements air duct cleaning … without adding any harmful chemicals into the air you breathe.

Benefect Botanical Disinfection Technology contains thyme oil as the active ingredient. They are the largest purchaser of thyme oil in the world and their products are patented world wide.

Thyme oil is an effective germ-killing ingredient that is less toxic than vinegar!

“In nature, plants produce germ-killing 'essential oils' to protect themselves from invading microbes, similar to how our bodies produce antibodies for our protection. Benefect is a revolutionary blend of these antimicrobial extracts, particularly from the herb Thyme, and achieves remarkable efficacy ...without using any traditional synthetic chemicals.”- Benefect.com

Indoor air quality is not just about dirt particles suspended in the air it is also about things you can't see like bacteria and microbes. You want to get rid of mold and bacteria off the surface of your air ventilation system but you don't want to use harsh or even toxic chemicals to do so. Benefect is the answer.

Benefect is proven to kill over 99.99% bacteria and surpasses Health Canada's efficacy requirements for a broad range of disinfectants.

We recommend Benefect because it is safe and effective. It's used by hospitals, schools, municipalities, and other institutions where sanitary conditions are desired without introducing harmful chemicals.

What’s in Your Dust? How to Reduce Dust with Air Duct Cleaning

Duct Cleaning Air Quality Barrie Bacteria AllergiesEver wondered what’s in your home’s dust?

The dust in your home can contain up to 9,000 different microbes … including 7,000 types of bacteria and 2,000 varieties of fungi. And while the majority of the bacteria and fungi are harmless, some of them can be linked to allergies and illness.

“In a typical six-room home, up to 40 pounds of dust is created annually through everyday living.” – National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA)

Your heating and cooling system is the “lungs” of your home – it takes air in and breathes it out … pulling contaminants into your HVAC system and then recirculating them into the air. According to NADCA, this recirculation occurs on average 5 – 7 times per day, leading to a build-up of contaminants in your duct work.

Not only will you breathe in these contaminants on a daily basis, you’ll also be wasting 25 to 40% of your home’s energy! This waste of energy occurs because your HVAC system will have to work harder.

Dust accumulates inside your air ducts the same way as it can accumulate under a bed or couch. This dust is comprised of hair, flakes of skin, pet dander, lint, food debris, rodent droppings and construction debris. This dust can cause respiratory problems, trigger allergies and cause the system to be inefficient.

If you regularly dust and notice that your hard work is ruined only days later, or if you have a pet or have recently completed renovations, you should consider duct cleaning to remove the contaminants from the air.

To get started, simply give us a call and we will provide you with a free quote for residential duct cleaning services, based on the size of your home and an estimate of the home’s hot air vents and cold air returns. We can provide a written quote when needed.

From there, a typical residential cleaning takes approximately two hours. Our uniformed cleaning technicians will attach an eight-inch hose to your air ducts. All vents are sealed and then compressed air powered agitation tools are fed through the ducts. These tools operate on high pressure and high volume, as they travel through the ducts they brush and sweep all attached dust and debris. The loosened dirt and contaminants are sucked out of the air ducts by the powerful vacuum system.

Summer Duct Cleaning for Your Home, Office or School

Duct Cleaning Commercial School Office Barrie SUmmer
It’s summer time. And summer in Ontario usually means hot and humid. And if you’re like me, you’ve been enjoying the beautiful weather when you’re outside … but you’re also enjoying the comfort of an air conditioned home as well.

Your home’s HVAC system is probably running often. And while there are some great ways you can reduce the amount of time you’re running your air conditioning, (like using a programmable thermostat, shading from direct sunlight and preventing hot air from entering & cold air from escaping), you’ll still be running your HVAC system on a regular basis.

This means that you’ll be regularly breathing in airborne contaminants. Every time you run your air conditioning in the summer or furnace in the winter, you’re circulating contaminates through your air ducts and into the air you breathe.

You air ducts are home to dust, dirt, mold, bacteria, pet hair and sometimes construction garbage (you’d be surprised what we find in there!). Every time heat or cold air passes through the air ducts, it is pushed into your home and directly into the air you breathe.

Cleaning your air ducts can have some major benefits.

· Removes accumulated dust

· Removes debris and cobwebs

· Increases the efficiency of your system

· Removes contaminates following construction or renovation

· Reduce odours caused by pet smell or pet hair

· Allows you to identify and remove any animal infestations

But the biggest and most important benefit is a dramatic improvement in indoor air quality. You’ll be able to breathe fresh, clean air!

Summer is a great time of year to clean your home's air ducts.  Or clean your school's air ducts before back to school in September.  Contact us today for a free quote for home or school air duct cleaning!

Allergy season hit Ontario hard this year – in fact, it was reported that this year’s allergy season was one of the worst in years due to a combination of circumstances such as a snowy winter and delayed spring. What’s worse – an amalgamation of pollens has occurred, causing an increase in allergy symptoms ... and allergy season has just begun.

With such a high level of outdoor allergens, you may be spending more time inside. But did you know your home’s air quality may contain just as many allergens as outdoor air?

Indoor air pollution is just as likely to trigger an allergic response. Why? Because indoor air often contains higher levels of contaminants than outdoor air. Breathing in mold, pet dander, dust, animal droppings and pollen can lead to allergic reactions – and these contaminants may all be present in your air ducts.

When you turn on your home’s air conditioner, these contaminants are vented back into the air you breathe. If you find yourself experiencing symptoms of an allergic response, such as coughing, constant sneezing, a runny or stuffed nose, and itchy, watery eyes, while you are inside your home, it's time to implement some steps to improve your home’s air quality.

Step 1 | Clean Your Air Ducts

Cleaning your home’s air ducts will have a dramatic impact on your home’s air quality. Air ducts can be home to pet hair, dust, building materials, bacteria and fungal growth, which are fed throughout your home every time your HVAC system runs. Not only can these cause an allergic response, it can also cause respiratory infections and sickness, and create a dangerous fire hazard.

Step 2 | Buy Some Houseplants

There are certain houseplants that will not only improve the quality of air in your home, but will also collect pollen and pollutants in their leaves. The top plants recommended for relieving allergies are:

· Mums and Peace Lillies

· Golden Pothos and Philodendron

· Gerbera Daisies

· Areca Palm

· Lady Palm and Bamboo Palm

· Dracaena

These plants are known to remove toxins and allergens from the air.

Step 3 | Control Dust Mites

You can easily reduce dust build-up in your home by increasing the frequency of cleaning. Vacuum more often, or even consider removing carpeting and replacing with hardwood or linoleum flooring. In your bedroom, look for dust-mite proof covers and be sure to wash your bedding once per week. Consider choosing easy-to-clean furnishing such as chairs and dressers made of leather, wood or metal, and choose washable curtains made of plain cotton or synthetic fabric.

Step 4 | Stop Using Chemical Pollutants

Harsh chemicals, from your household cleaners to synthetic fragrances, can emit pollutants into the air. These chemicals circulate throughout your home’s air ducts and can linger in each room, causing you to continuously inhale harmful contaminants.

Step 5 | Reduce Humidity

Try to limit use of humidifiers and improve your home’s ventilation. Dust mites aren’t the only contaminant that thrives in humid environments; fungal contaminants like mold will flourish in moist areas.

Why Should You Clean Your Office Air Ducts in the Spring?

Spring Duct Cleaning air quality barrieHaving your air ducts cleaned in the spring is a great addition to your home cleaning tasks, but it shouldn’t stop there. Arranging to have your office air ducts cleaned after a long winter will have a huge impact on your office air quality.

Over the winter months, office air ducts can become contaminated with dust, dirt, mold and bacteria. And if you completed any office renovations during the winter months, including painting, you may still be breathing in those harmful contaminants.

Dirty air ducts in a commercial environment can contribute to various issues, including employee absenteeism, dirt and staining on the walls and ceiling, and occupant discomfort.

Occupant discomfort is one of the more serious signs of poor indoor air quality that often leads to absenteeism. Symptoms that mimic a colds or the flu including headache, fatigue, sinus congestion, coughing, and sneezing can all indicate occupant discomfort. If your employees get sick and miss work often, investigating air quality may be a great option for boosting their morale.

Office and commercial buildings, just like your home, require periodic air duct cleaning. Without periodic cleaning, bacteria, dust, fungal growth, and building materials will be forced through your building every time the HVAC and Air Conditioning system operates.

HVAC and Air Conditioning systems are often large and complex, serving multiple work areas and multiple floors. These complex systems require expert cleaning and maintenance to ensure contaminants are properly removed.

In order to effectively clean these systems, our certified technicians use robots to inspect, clean and sanitize confined spaces and complex duct systems. Our Ventri Clean system is a high volume air knife that is used to slice through dirt, with a rotating silica carbide brush eliminating stubborn pollutants. Our powerful truck mounted or portable HEPA vacuum system allows us to handle any size of heating, air conditioning or exhaust ducts, in homes, high-rise buildings, commercial buildings, schools, hospitals and factories.
